When baskets arrive they are folded in on themselves so they can pack more baskets into each shipment, which saves money on shipping. So, when they arrive, a little reshaping is in order. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to reshape any round bolga basket!
This is how the baskets will look when they arrive. Firmly push the base of the basket through towards the bottom.
The baskets will now have large creases running down each side. Now is the time to get them wet. You can use a hose, watering can, water bottle—just make sure that you get the whole basket wet except for the leather. Once soaked, swing the basket a few times to get rid of the excess water.
This next stage is a little unusual, but trust me, it works! See the sides with the big creases? Push them towards each other, squeezing the basket in the middle. Make sure that the two sides of the handle line up in the middle. This is a great time to reform the handles if they aren't straight. Leave the basket at this stage to dry in the sun for 5-7 minutes. This will remove the creases.
Finally, push out the squished sides. Turn the basket on its side in your hands with the leather handle facing your stomach. Use your palms to push upwards and downwards inside the basket, turning it around and around until you've shaped the entire inside of the basket. Then, set it down on the ground and push the base inner circle down to make sure that the basket sits correctly. Then, shape the top outer rim to make a perfect circle. Lastly, gently use your finger tips to massage/tap out any small imperfections from the inside of the basket.
Leave the basket to dry on a level surface in the sun for 2-3 hours or until it feels dry. Do not put anything in it for a full day to make sure that the basket has properly dried and set.
